2026 Teacher of the Year Announced!

University Place School District  is proud to announce that Corinne Smith, Band Teacher at Curtis Junior High School, has been selected as the 2026 University Place School District Teacher of the Year. Ms. Smith received multiple nominations from parents, students and colleagues. 

Corinne Smith is an accomplished musician, instructor and music education leader. She demonstrates strong instructional skills and is able to meet the diverse needs of her students.  Ms. Smith is praised by parents and colleagues alike for maintaining high standards for learning and performance while also making sure students have fun and feel respected.  

Ms. Smith demonstrates high levels of professionalism and collaboration both inside the district and around the state. She works closely with her colleagues in University Place to ensure that students receive an excellent music education at all levels while also participating in many regional and state music activities. Corinne is currently the president-elect of the Washington Music Educators Association, where she has been an active contributor for many years.

Ms. Smith has been a successful middle level music educator in Pierce County for the last decade. She has led the Curtis Junior High program since 2021. Ms. Smith earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Montana in 2010 and a Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of Idaho in 2015. She is also a National Board Certified Music Educator and continues to pursue her own education and growth by participating in a wide variety of music activities.
