What is the WA Cares Fund?
The Washington State Legislature established a long-term care insurance benefit for all eligible workers to address the future long-term care crisis.

What contributions will I make to the WA Cares Fund via my paycheck?

The WA Cares Fund is self-funded entirely by workers contributions.  The premium is 0.58% (your wages x 0.0058).

How do I earn this benefit?
You must contribute at least 10 years (without a break of 5 or more years) OR have contributed 3 out of the past 6 years at the time of application for benefits.

Are there any webinars on the WA Cares Fund?

Can I purchase my own long term care insurance (not WA Cares Fund) and apply for exemption?

Yes, you can purchase your own long term care insurance.  UPSD is not offering other long term care insurance plans.  If you have a plan in place before November 1, 2021, you can apply for an exemption through the Employment Security Department beginning on October 1, 2021.  If approved, your exemption will mean that you aren’t required to pay premiums and will be permanently excluded from WA Care benefits.
