Great WA ShakeOut

Drop, Cover and Hold On
Posted on 10/17/2022
Great WA Shakeout LogoLiving in the Pacific Northwest, we are all aware that an earthquake is a possibility at anytime. All University Place School District students will be joining over a million of other participants from across the state in the Great ShakeOut on October 20, 2022.

The Great ShakeOut is our opportunity to practice how to protect ourselves during earthquakes. In most situations, you will reduce your chance of injury if you:

● DROP where you are, onto your hand and knees. This position protects you from being knocked down and also allows you to stay low and crawl to shelter.

● COVER your head and neck with one arm and hand. If you have a sturdy table or desk nearby, crawl under it for shelter. If no shelter is nearby, crawl next to an interior wall. Stay on your knees and bent over to protect vital organs.

● HOLD ON until shaking stops.
Wherever you are, protect yourself.
